If memory had a color, what would it be? This painting is my answer. It began not as a landscape, but a feeling: the hazy, half-dreaming state by a pond on a summer afternoon. I chose oil for its ability to stack time and memory with thick, tangible strokes. The vertical, scraped textures are both pouring light and time itself.
The mood is set by a vast expanse of turquoise and cyan—the color of water, air, and dreams. It’s mottled, not clear, because memory is never high-definition. Upon this haze, I inscribed Eastern symbols. The pine tree is outlined in black, a relief sculpture of thick oil paint. Beneath it, a warm ochre patch—a sunset’s afterglow—balances the cool water.
Golden water lilies, applied with a palette knife, are shimmering fragments of memory. A distant bamboo silhouette adds layers and tranquility. This painting is a memory pond on canvas, merging Western texture with Eastern spirit. I hope it invites you to dive into your own summer dream.
