When I unroll rice paper, my goal isn’t to paint a mountain, but to capture its breath.
The process starts with “qi” (energy). I let watery ink flow and collide, creating a primordial mist that defines the space between void and substance. From this chaos, the mountain emerges. With powerful, layered strokes, I sculpt the rocks, their textures revealing traces of tectonic history.
The soul of the piece is the splash of blue and green. These mineral pigments are not just colors, but the mountain’s core, blended with ink to bloom like natural ore.
The ancient pine in the foreground is my projection of “self”—a resilient witness to the scene. It connects reality to imagination, growing from mist towards the summit. Tiny figures and birds add a human scale to the vastness.
This painting is my dialogue with nature, an attempt to capture the flow of energy. I hope you feel its timeless tranquility and power, and hear the mountain’s steady, profound breath.
